high taxes are good?

Could I be wrong in everything I believe about taxes? Below is from a recent editorial in the Pioneer Press.

The facts are clear enough: When the presidency was under Republican control during the past 40 years, 1.4 million net additional jobs have come into being per year, on average. Under Democratic control, 2.5 million net jobs have come into being in an average year — 78 percent more. Jimmy Carter actually surpassed Bill Clinton’s highly praised job-creation performance.

and another view on taxes:

Senator Barack Obama declared recently that he wants to “reform our tax code so that it rewards work and not just wealth.” We think that is a great goal if it means a simple tax system with low marginal tax rates. Unfortunately, a close inspection of Obama’s proposals reveals something disquieting: he would raise marginal tax rates for many middle-income taxpayers, a bad move for anyone seeking to promote economic growth
