Introduction
Chances are that if you are reading this you have paid taxes to the United States government. Ever wonder how your money is being spent or how much of it the federal government has already planned on spending even before you’ve earned it? Through a series of 41 revised and updated charts, The Heritage Foundation’s 2008 Federal Revenue and Spending Book of Charts will depict the answers to these and other vital questions such as:
- Is the current path of the federal budget sustainable?
- Can we simply raise taxes to stop the approaching tsunami of entitlement spending?
- How are the majority of our taxes being spent?
The 2008 edition also has several new updates that reveal:
- The approaching wave of Social Security spending is no longer a distant concern.
- Despite the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, defense spending has dropped below the historical average.
Questions about the Federal Revenue and Spending charts should be directed to the authors at The Heritage Foundation via e-mail or at (202) 546-4400.
